Vaisala redefines our wind measurement solution with enhanced WindCube Scan to optimize operation and mitigate potentially hazardous conditions in different environments
Vaisala’s enhanced WindCube Scan solution provides next-generation lidar technology that raises the bar for trustworthy wind measurements for enhanced situational awareness and actionable, mission-critical information.
Vaisala, a manufacturer of equipment for meteorological, environmental and Industrial measurements, today announced recent developments in WindCube® Scan. WindCube Scan is the trusted scanning LiDAR solution that provides a wide measurement range and reliable performance for timely and accurate information for the meteorological, aviation and wind industries.
New features of the Vaisala WindCube Scan include a more robust housing, a new scan head and an improved laser design for continuous and stable operation at distances of up to 10 km and beyond, the longest measurement distance in the industry. Adopting a high standard for scanning LiDAR solutions has many advantages, including enhanced atmospheric measurements for weather forecasting, wind shear assessment to help mitigate wind hazards at airports, and simplicity for different phases of wind energy projects , flexibility and data accuracy.
“Vaisala’s WindCube Scan solution supports continuous wind measurements, enabling our customers to focus on improving accuracy, safety and efficiency,” said Heikki Joensuu, Director of Remote Sensing, Vaisala. “This versatile device captures real-time data at various locations to help decision makers manage major weather changes, impacting everything from people’s travel plans to reliable energy.”
The WindCube Scan solution raises industry standards by providing:
Improved laser design:Provides high-accuracy measurements up to 18.9 km, and timely, reliable information to support decision-making.
Withstands severe weather conditions:The new rugged housing and the heating of the scanner lens allow the lidar to operate in a variety of weather conditions including wet, dusty, icy, heavy rain and snow.
Adapt to extreme temperatures:The temperature range of -40°C to 55°C (nearly 100°C difference) is the widest measurement range in the industry.
Run continuously:Redesigned scan head for reliable 24/7 operation and improved long-term cost-effectiveness
Reduced outages and automated maintenance:Well-performing components provide continuous, timely measurements, along with reliable warranties and service packages for continuous operation and accurate, reliable measurements.
Can be deployed in remote areas:Users can now use WindCube Scan in more environments over 4G networks even without Ethernet cables
Vaisala’s lidar scanning:The new scan head provides volumetric scanning modes covering three-dimensional space and segmental scanning modes along specified inclined planes, such as scanning aircraft glideslopes in the aviation field.
